Fire Hazard: Undesirable Ecosystem Function of Orchard Vegetation

نویسندگان

چکیده

Fires will become an increasingly frequent perturbation even under the conditions of mild climate zone and interfere with agricultural landscape. Fire is a natural phenomenon, depending on ecosystems, vegetation may develop contribute to occurrence spread fire. Vegetation sour cherry orchard located in climatically dry South Moravian Region, Czech Republic (CR), was evaluated. assessment performed using phytocenological relevé. In each variant, 10 relevé were recorded. Coverage found species estimated directly percentages. Moreover, maximum height stand measured for type plant. Biomass individual plant calculated, biomass index (IB) equation. The IB values treatments processed by employing multidimensional analysis ecological data. Different management practices change diversity thus fire hazards conditions. Grassy interrow has most grass during entire season, therefore represents greatest hazard important grasses include Arrhenatherum elatius, Dactylis glomerata, Festuca pratensis, Lolium perenne, Poa pratensis. On contrary, bare soil are suitable annual species, this place highest changes number growing season. combined warm weather increases hazard. Annual perennial have very good potential production biomass, which nature orchards actual start its subsequent spread, however, other environmental During hot weather, dead accumulate resulting increasing large wildfires. Varied lead higher make orchards, islands biodiversity

HAZARD I: Software for Fire Hazard Assessment

NIST Handbook 146, HAZARD I—Fire Hazard Assessment Method [1], represents the culmination of a long-term program aimed at placing the prediction of fire outcomes on an objective and scientific basis. In the 1970s, NIST supported Harvard University to develop numerical models that could predict the temperature in a room containing a fire. These early models were difficult to use and interpret; r...

Development of Vegetation and Surface Fuels Following Fire Hazard Reduction Treatment

In dry western Unites States forests where past resource management has altered the ecological role of fire and stand characteristics alike, mechanical thinning and prescribed burning are commonly applied in wildfire hazard abatement. The reduced surface fuel loads and stand structures resulting from fuels modifications are temporary, yet few studies have assessed the lifespan of treatment effe...

Variability of vegetation fire emissions

Introduction Conclusions References Tables Figures Back Close Abstract Introduction Conclusions References Tables Figures Back Close Abstract Biomass burning has long been recognised as an important source of trace gases and aerosols in the atmosphere. The burning of vegetation has a repeating seasonal pattern, but the intensity of burning and the exact localisation of fires vary considerably f...

Response of vegetation distribution, ecosystem productivity, and fire to climate change scenarios for California

The response of vegetation distribution, carbon, and fire to three scenarios of future climate change was simulated for California using the MC1 Dynamic General Vegetation Model. Under all three scenarios, Alpine/Subalpine Forest cover declined, and increases in the productivity of evergreen hardwoods led to the displacement of Evergreen Conifer Forest by Mixed Evergreen Forest. Grassland expan...

Fire Recurrence and the Dynamics of the Enhanced Vegetation Index in a Mediterranean Ecosystem

This study area is located in the eastern littoral of the Iberian Peninsula; its importance resides in its Mediterranean ecosystem, complex topography, extensive land use changes, and intensive forest fires history. The study is done at the landscape level, covering a wide area for an extended period of time. This work uses Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Satellite Remote Sensing (SRS)...
